A cemetery might seem like and odd tourist attraction, but not Père Lachaise. There is no cemetery like this one.
This is the place to be if you are dead. As you walk along the head stones, each name is more famous than the next: Edith Piaf, Jim Morrison, Abelard and Heloise, Marcel Proust, Chopin, Balzac, Oscar Wilde are all interred here. And man, are they keeping good company.
On a side note, Père Lachaise was the first ‘garden style’ cemetery in the world. Before this, people buried their dead in catacombs and forgot about them. Père Lachaise was the model for the American garden cemetery. But, it seems to me that they just don’t look this cool in America.
